Coaching jobs · 16 and up · Burien, WA
Coach gymnastics. $20.65–$24 an hour, plus a bonus every time we grow.
The Jungle Gym has been Burien's kids gym for 20 years. We've grown 50% this year to about 200 members and we're building to 800 — that's why we're hiring, and it's why every coach gets a cash bonus each time we hit a membership milestone. Weekday daytime shifts are our biggest need. 20–40 hours a week on a set schedule that stays the same week to week. 16- and 17-year-olds welcome — see the shift note below for how that works during the school year.
The money, up front
Flat rates by level. Everyone starts at Level 1.
Same level, same pay, no negotiation — what's on your résumé doesn't change your starting rate, and it doesn't have to. There is no minimum time at a level: you move up the day you show you meet the next level's requirements. If you already coach, that can be a matter of weeks.
Hourly
$20.65–$24.00
per hour · 20 to 40 hours a week
The step above Level 3 is salaried General Manager. We add a second GM at 500 members, hired from the coaching team.
Milestone bonuses
Every coach gets paid when the gym grows
Hit every milestone and that's $14,500 on top of your hourly pay. We're at about 200 today, so the $500 is the one you'd help earn first. Every coach who is on the schedule the day we cross a milestone and has been here at least 60 days gets the full bonus, paid on the next regular payroll.
Level 1 → Level 2
- CPR/First Aid current and USAG (or equivalent) certification done — we pay for it
- Our GM has watched you run a full class on your own, warm-up to reset, and signed off
- You can spot every core skill at every station — floor, bars, beam, vault, tramp, ninja
- You know Momence check-in and rosters
- 30 days with no no-shows or late arrivals
Level 2 → Level 3
- You can open and close the building alone
- You run the pre-shift huddle and lead Parents Night Out
- You handle ratios and a parent problem without calling for help
- You've trained at least one new coach through Level 1
- GM sign-off plus owner approval
Your level goes on the Coach List the day you earn it, and your pay changes on the next payroll. Experienced coaches often clear Level 2 and Level 3 in their first few weeks — and we specifically need a weekday daytime Shift Lead, so if you've run a gym floor before, say so in your application.
The schedule
Pick the shifts you can commit to
Our schedule runs seven days a week, year-round. Tell us what you can commit to and we build your schedule once — we don't shuffle shifts week to week. As we grow, coaches who want more hours get them first.

Every shift on this grid can take another coach. The orange ones are what we need first. Want full time from day one? Work weekday mornings and early afternoons. The 9 AM–1 PM shift is open every weekday and most 1–4 PM slots need a second coach. Every shift runs multiple coaches, so a 40-hour schedule here is real, not a maybe.
If you're 16 or 17 — same pay, same levels, same titles. Level 1 is $20.65/hr whether you're 16 or 46, you move up on the same checklist, and you're in on the milestone bonuses on the same terms. Age changes your hours, not your rate.
And still in school? Washington sets those hours, not us. During a school week you can work up to 20 hours, up to 4 hours a day Monday–Thursday and up to 8 hours Friday, Saturday or Sunday, between 7 AM and 10 PM — midnight on Friday and Saturday. On school breaks it goes up to 8 hours a day and 48 a week.
Want more than 20 hours during the school year? You can have it. Washington lets your school sign a variance that raises the cap to 28 hours a week and 6 hours a day. Tell us and we'll send that form along with your authorization slip.
In practice that means these are your shifts: weekday 4–8 PM, Friday 4–6 and the 6–10 Parents Night Out, Saturday 9–1 and 1–6, and Sunday. The weekday 9 AM–1 PM shift is during school hours, so it's an adult shift while school is in session — but it opens up to you over winter break, spring break and summer, when camp runs 9 to 3.
The job
What you'll actually do
Teach classes
Gymnastics and ninja classes for ages 0–12 — tumbling, bars, beam, floor. Five kids to one coach, from our progressions.
Run the floor
Weekday Open Play, open gym, birthday parties and Parents Night Out. Set up and tear down between classes.
Keep it clean
Floors, mats, bathrooms, restocking. Everyone does it, including the owner.
Know every kid's name
And greet every parent. That's how a small gym grows — and it's what the bonuses are tied to.
Before you apply
What we need from you
- A gymnastics background. Competitive athlete, college team, or formal gymnastics coaching. Strong cheer or tumbling coaches with real spotting experience are welcome to apply.
- You like kids more than your phone. You'll spend most of your shift with a four-year-old hanging off your arm.
- Reliable, punctual, coachable, high energy. Reliable beats talented here, every time.
- CPR and First Aid — but not on day one. We book it and pay for it after you start. Same with USAG certification.
- A background check. Standard for anyone working with kids.
- A set schedule you can hold. 20+ hours a week if you're 18 or over. Under 18 during the school year: 20 hours, or up to 28 with a school variance — Washington's limit, not ours.
- 16 or older. Everyone under 18 needs a Parent/School Authorization slip signed by a parent and by your school before the first shift. We send it the day you're hired — start it early, it takes a few days to come back.
What you get
- 401(k) through Human Interest
- Paid training and paid certifications
- Free gym membership
- Employee discount on parties and camps
- Washington paid sick leave
- A set schedule — no week-to-week shuffling
- Milestone bonuses — up to $14,500
- A real path up: Level 3 leads to salaried GM

Straight answers
The ones we get asked
I'm 16. Can I actually work here?
Yes, and you're paid exactly the same — $20.65 at Level 1, same levels, same titles, same milestone bonuses. You need the same gymnastics background as anyone else, plus a Parent/School Authorization form signed by your parent and your school — we send it, it takes a few days, start it early. Washington caps you at 20 hours during a school week, 4 hours a day Monday–Thursday, 8 on Friday through Sunday, and nothing past 10 PM on a school night — and if you want more, your school can sign a variance that takes it to 28 hours and 6 hours a day. We build your schedule inside those limits and we don't ask you to break them. Over school breaks the cap lifts and camp days (9 to 3) open up.
Do I really need a gymnastics background?
Yes. Our coaches teach real progressions and spot real skills, so we hire people who already have that in their hands. If you competed, coached, or ran cheer and tumbling with real spotting experience, apply. If you don't have it yet, send us a note anyway — when we open a floor-assistant role you'll be first on the list.
How fast can I move up from $20.65?
As fast as you can meet the Level 2 list above. There's no minimum time served. Experienced coaches often clear it in a few weeks. The raise starts on the next payroll after your level changes.
Are the milestone bonuses real, or a carrot?
Real, written the same way in the offer letter: every coach on the schedule the day we cross a milestone, with at least 60 days here, gets the full bonus on the next regular payroll. We're at about 200 members. The first one is $500 at 250.
Is 40 hours a week actually available?
Yes, if you can work weekday days. The 9 AM–1 PM shift is open every weekday, and most 1–4 PM slots need a second coach. Evenings and weekends alone will get you 20–25.
Do you pay for certification?
Yes — CPR/First Aid and USAG, and the training time. It's the requirement for Level 2, and we're not going to make you fund your own raise.
What's the tryout like?
Thirty minutes on the floor with real kids. Run a warm-up, spot a forward roll, help at a station. We're watching how you talk to a nervous five-year-old more than how clean your own cartwheel is.
Will my schedule change every week?
No. You tell us the shifts you can commit to, we build it once, and it stays. Coverage shifts are optional and offered to whoever wants extra hours.
Come see the place first
Walk in during Open Play and watch a class. No appointment, no pitch. If you like what you see, apply on your phone before you leave.
